Feeling nostalgic: Lelaki dan Rembulan

Rembulan di malam hari
The moon at night
Lelaki diam seribu kata
The man sits in silent
Hanya memandang
Just watching
Hatinya luka hatinya luka
His heart is broken, his heart is broken
Hatinya luka
His heart is broken

Udara terasa berat
The air felt heavy
Karena asmara sesakkan dada
As love suffocates him
Ketika cinta terbentur dinding
When love hits a wall
Terbentur dinding
Hits a wall

Bukalah hatiku hatimu yang selalu membeku
Open your frozen heart
Agar ku lihat lagi rembulan di wajahmu
So I can see the moon from your face once more
Jangan sembunyikan hatimu padaku
Don't hide your heart from me

Lelaki dan rembulan
The man and the moon
Bersatu di malam
Together again on the night
Angin sepoi-sepoi
The wind gently blows

RIP Bang Franky, you're not forgotten

December Sunshine Part 12

“Stop blaming her for our failure!” Guntoro suddenly appeared behind them. “She has nothing to do with what happened, leave her out of it.”
“She has nothing to do? Can you really say that so easily?” Dini insisted.
“What are you guys talking about?” Endang was beginning to get confused.
“Don’t mind her, apparently she hasn’t changed a bit.” Guntoro said. “Bu Lik, why don’t you go inside, I have to talk to Dini for a while.”

Ba Ai Mou Qin by Xin Xin Xiang Rong Chapter 15 Part 2

Jincheng lifted his cup and drank the liquid down to the last drop. His smiled for a while, then his face became gloomy again, frustrated that she only allowed him to kiss her the other night and nothing more. He felt played with, she brought his hopes up and left him hanging.

Jincheng suddenly laughed at himself, she wanted to break up with him, and his worried about not getting any?

Endang felt her blood rush to her head, causing her to become dizzy with anger, she opened her eyes as wide as she could, she pointed at Guntoro and yelled, “You! How could you do this to me? How could you be so mean and inconsiderate? I can’t believe this! How many times do I have to tell you to take off your shoes at the front door when you return from community night-watchman duty? Look at my floor! It’s all dirty! Do you know how hard it is for me to maintain the house clean all day?”

“Are you only eating that?” Guntoro asked with disbelief looking at Endang’s plate at the breakfast buffet table.
“Well, the waiters and waitresses are standing around the table with a frowning face, I kind of feel embarrassed.” Endang asked.
He smiled. “Why don’t you sit at the table first, and I’ll bring you the food. Go on!”

Endang could feel her blood rush to her head, this was an overwhelming new experience for her. She had never been this close to a man before let alone pressing lips like this.
She was shocked when his tongue pried open her lips and began exploring her mouth. She had a moment of hesitation whether to push him away or allow him to continue. Her heart told her to choose the latter. His strong hands gently pulled her closer towards him, pressing her body against his. Endang’s senses began to drift away, caught in the current of his passion.
Surabaya 1993

The sound of people reciting out loud the Surah Yasin filled every corner of the small and humble house. Two women were sitting against the wall clad in black. One older and the other about fifteen years old. They were hugging each other and crying inconsolably. Their eyes fixed on the figure covered in white fabric placed on a small divan in the middle of the room

“Bapak[1], forgive me….” Cried the young girl. “This is all my fault……”

“Don’t put the blame on yourself nDuk[2]……” The slightly older lady cried, “This is all God’s will. This is all God’s will. Don’t be sad, okay. You have me, I’m with you. I’m by your side. Don’t be afraid.”

A man approached them, “Bu[3] Yanti, it’s time now.” He said solemnly

She held her daughters hand, “Sri, let’s go now, we have to lay your father to rest.”

The funeral procession moved slowly towards the cemetery. Friends gathered in sympathy to show support to the widow and daughter of Pak Burhan.

Sri and her mother stayed behind after everybody had left for their respective homes. The sun was beginning to set behind the horizon. But the two were reluctant to leave the grave of a man who had loved them and protected them all this time. Finally Bu Yanti stood up, and helped her step daughter to stand.

“Ibu, thank you for coming into my life. I love you….” Sri whispered, “I’m glad Bapak finally married you after so long and brought you into our family.”

“Sri, don’t hurt me like that. Why do you still consider me as your step mother? I was the one who took care of you since you were five years old, after your mother left the two of you. If you love me, don’t ever mention that again.” Her face showed sincerity.

She put her arms around her step daughter’s shoulder gently and helped her to walk back home.

A harsh pounding at the door scared them. Bu Yanti went out to the living room, not daring to open the door. Finally Sri walked to the door and opened it.

A woman in her late thirties barged into the living room. Her face filled with anger and hatred, looking at the two despectively. “Take this check!” She said to Bu Yanti. “And the both of you should leave this place immediately! I don’t want that whore of a daughter you have coming anywhere near my son. He’s not like you! He has a bright future, he is the heir of Jaya Abadi!”

“It was your son who coerced my daughter! He has to take responsibility for the child in her stomach!”

“Like I said to your husband, I will say to you. There is no way a decent and distinguished family like ours will even consider excepting her kind into our family. That child that she’s carrying is none of our business. That girl is just like her real mother, a tramp who follows men around. Take the money and go!”

Bu Yanti took the check from the lady’s hand and tore it to pieces fiercely, “How dare you humiliate my daughter!!” She growled.

“Ibu, wait.” Suddenly Sri who had been quiet all this time spoke up.

“I will agree to leave.” She said with full conviction holding the torn check in her hand, “I will leave and disappear with my baby. But only if you give me ten times what’s in this check. I can’t believe that your son is only worth this much to you. If you refuse to give me the money, I will tell him that I’m pregnant with his child.”

“Sri….” Bu Yanti yelled.

“Ibu, trust me…” The girl replied calmly.

“You ungrateful little bitch! I’m not surprise that you’re shamelessly selling yourself like that. We were kind to help you and enroll you in a good and prestigious school and pay for your studies, but look how you paid us back.” She took out her check book and wrote down the number then signed. “That amount of money means absolutely nothing to us. Take and disappear! If you dare betray me, I’ll make you pay.”

“And if you dare betray me! I’ll make you pay!” Sri replied bravely.

The rich lady turned around with disgust and walked out the door. Bu Yanti quickly closed the door and came up to her daughter. “Sri, how can you do that? Where will we put our pride? Did your father die for nothing?”

“Ibu, what pride? What pride do I have left? That evil woman humiliated my father and caused him to die of a heart attack, and I’m only fifteen, unmarried and pregnant. Neither you nor I work. My baby can’t live on pride, none of us can. Besides, this money is from my child’s own paternal grandparents. If anything my child deserves it.” She grabbed her mother’s hand, “Ibu, trust me. I realize now. I can’t let this tragedy destroy the life and future of my child, let’s leave this place with this money, we can build a new and dignified life for this innocent creature growing inside of me.”

Bu Yanti hugged her, knowing very well that Sri was trying to be brave, but deep inside she was scared and broken. “Okay nDuk, okay. Let’s start a new life.”

Jakarta present day

The sound of her stiletto high heels clacking against the shiny marble floor made people hurry to move and give way to her.  Her body language shouted confidence and determination, giving out an intimidating aura. She was dressed in a striped black pant suite, with her hair pulled back into a bun behind her head. She wore red lipstick and her sharp eyes shined behind her glasses. She had a designer brand handbag on her shoulder and was carrying a gray briefcase.

She walked to the reception table to register her presence, “Padmawati to see Miss Nuraini Saleh from human resources.” She said directly to the point.

“Y..y..yes, Mam.” The receptionist stuttered, feeling daunted by the charismatic person in front of her. She picked up the phone and quickly called the HR department, her voice was still shaky as she announce the arrival of the woman standing in front of her. “Please wait a few more minutes, Mam. Miss Nuraini’s assistant will come downstairs to show you to the conference room where you will be having the job interview.”

“Thank you.” She replied courtly. Padmawati waited for a few minutes, then a young lady appeared before her.

She had a pleasant disposition and a soft sooth voice, “Bu Padma?” She asked.

“That’s me.” Padmawati replied.

“Good morning, Mam. I’m Shinta, I was the one who called you to arrange this interview.”

“Mbak[4] Shinta, it’s a pleasure to finally put a face to the name.” Padmawati extended her hand to shake the young girl’s.

Shinta was surprised to feel a steady grip from the slim and tender hand of the woman in front of her.

"Please follow me, this way.” She walked in front of Padmawati, then passed her security card in front of the scanner to open the security rail. Padmawati followed behind her, her tall frame over shadowing the girl walking in front of her.

They reached the conference room that was located at the end of the hallway.  Padmawati entered and quickly scanned the room, she took a mental note of the two people who were already sitting at the oval conference table.

"Mam, can I get you something to drink?" Shinta asked.

"Some water would be nice,  thank you. "

Padmawati chose a chair to air in. She opened her briefcase and pulled out her tablet. Seeing that the people who were in the room were still busy chatting with each other, she concluded that the top dog hadn't arrived yet. She leaned back against her seat and waited patiently.

A few minutes later three other people walked in,  two men and a woman.

She could guess who this woman was,  it had you be Nuraini Saleh the HR Manager .

The petite lady came up to her and smiled, demonstrating the level if kindness typical of human resources people when facing a candidate.

"Bu Padma, thank you for giving us the chance to introduce you to our company." She opened the conversation. "I’m Nuraini the Human Resources Manager. I hope after this meeting you will be interested to join us as part of our team" She continued while handing Padmawati a card.

"Nice to meet you." Padmawati also handed a business card to her.

"This is Pak Eddie,  he is the Vice President if the company,  This is Pak Budiman he manages our finance.  These gentlemen here, Pak Ahmad, Pak Karmat and Pak Warto are all members of the Board of Directors.

She shook their hands one by one and gave them her business card.

“Please take a seat.” Eddie smiled charmingly, “Let’s begin the meeting.”

“Please don’t. I’m afraid, I don’t want to do this.” The young girl cried.

“Come on, you should prove to me that you love me. You’re my girlfriend, this is something that people in love do.” The boy about the same age as her replied.

“But I can’t, this is not right. We’re not married to each other.”

“Shhh…..if anything happens, I’ll take responsibility. I promise.” He coaxed her again.

He pushed her on the mat and lifted her skirt, she tried to stop him, but he grabbed both her hands in his right hand and pressed it down against the ground above her head. His left hand free to remove the barriers that remain.

“Yud, if you love me, you shouldn’t ask me to do this, please Yud….” She pleaded.

“Sri….”He sighed then kissed her lips to stop her from saying anything else.

She muffled a scream and cried, feeling a sharp pain on the lower part of her body, as he burst into a pleasure that he had never known before. He fell limp on top of her, letting go of her hands and breathing heavily. She pushed him away and sat up, her eyes where filled with tears and her body in pain. She quickly stood up and fixed her clothed then moved to run out of the store room.

“You’re mean….” She cried

He sat up too and grabbed her wrist, trying to stop her from leaving, but she pulled her arm away with all her strength and ran. He felt something moist on the palm of his hand that was on the dusty mat, he put his hand up to see what it was, it was blood. Guilt flooded his consciousness like a tidal wave, suffocating him and causing his head to spin out of control……

“Sir…sir…please wake up, we’re about to land in Soekarno Hatta International Airport, you have to straighten your seat and put on your seatbelt.” The flight attendant gently woke him up. Freeing him from the reoccurring nightmare that had haunted him for the past five years.

He passed his hand over his face and took a deep breath. That nightmare again, he said to himself. As always her face was blurry, he can barely remember what she looked like, but the overwhelming feeling of guilt and remorse was just as harsh as the day it happened twenty one years ago.

His guilt revived and snow balled, after he heard his mother’s confession in her death bed five years ago. The young girl was pregnant with his baby.

He had lived his life as a playboy, moving from girlfriend to girlfriend because of her. He was only fifteen back then when his parents told him that his high school sweetheart had accepted some money from his mother to leave him before skipping town. After that he found it hard to trust the opposite sex let alone to commit to a woman.

Now it all made sense, his mother had emotionally pushed her father to death, and she was left alone in the world as a pregnant teenager with no one to protect her.

The plane taxied in the runway and then stopped. The seat belt light turned off, and several passengers jumped up from their seats to reach for their luggage so they can quickly get off the plane. Yudhistira waited until the aisle was almost empty before he stood up and reached for his hand luggage in the overhead compartment. He walked calmly towards the door, he politely nodded and thanked the crew as they cordially bid farewell to all the passengers leaving the plane.

He always pecked light when travelling, opting to bring clothes that were easy to mix and match. This allowed him more flexibility in moving around, just in case he needed to make any detours in his trip. He pulled out the handle and dragged the suitcase on its small wheels behind him. He had his passport ready in his hand to show the immigration officer.

Outside he looked left and right to find his transport. Eddie waved at him to get his attention. “Mas Yudi, how was your trip?” Eddie asked cheerfully once Yudistira walked up to him.

“It was good. These suppliers although new, they actually were able to compete with the others. I think we can save a good amount of money working with them. Above all, I liked their quality control system, unlike our previous supplier who send us crappy goods most of the time.” He replied.

“You were gone for a month and a half this time, how many manufacturers did you visit in China?” Eddie asked while helping his cousin with his suitcase.

“I lost count after the second week. You won’t believe the stories I have to tell.” He smiled.

“Well I have good news for you, we were able to scout a very experience lady to fill the position of Marketing Manager. You saw her resume, very impressive.”

“Ah yes, what was her name again?”

“Padmawati. But don’t be fooled by her name, she’s by no means a gentle flower. She’s sharp, direct and tough, she’s only been with us for a month and she’s already made strategic changes to our marketing department.” He updated, then cheekily smiled. “In short she’s not your type of woman.”

“But she’s yours?”

“Let’s just say I truly hope she goes for younger guys.”

Yudhistira smiled shaking his head. “We’re just in time to dodge the traffic and arrive at the office just as people get back from lunch break.” He pointed to a restaurant, “Let’s get some easy to hold food so we can eat in the car.”

They pulled up behind a white Toyota Kijang, from the front passenger seat a tall woman got off and then closed the door.

“That’s her.” Eddie pointed out, “Padmawati our new Marketing.”

She was just about to turn around and walk into the building when from the driver’s side a young man in his early twenties hopped down and ran around the car and caught up with her. They seemed to converse for a little while, then she nodded held his face with both hands and kissed his cheeks.

“Well that answers your question!” Yudhistira said with full blown sarcasm, “She does go for younger guys.”

“Hey, but doesn’t that young guy look familiar? Where have I seen him before?” Eddie wondered.

The young man got in the car again and drove away.

They got off the car and entered the building, while the valet parking moved the car to the garage. They were alone in the elevator, so Yudhistira saw the opportunity to continue teasing his younger cousin, “My poor little cousin, I bet you’re breaking up inside, now that you know your flower belongs to someone else.”

“I don’t know that.” Eddie rebuked.

“Oh? Then why would she kiss him in public if there’s nothing between them.”

“Well there’s definitely something between them, of course, but it could be anything, brother and sister, or aunt and nephew, who knows.”

“Boyfriend and girlfriend….” Yudhistira said in a fading tone.

They arrived at their floor. Some staff stood up from their chair to greet the big boss. Nodding their head in respect. Yudhistira entered his office immediately. His office was spacious with a large desk at the center. Behind his desk was a big window, with a view of the building across the street. Something that dreaded him so much.

Somebody knocked on the door, “Come in.” He said.

Eddie opened the door and entered, he was followed by Padmawati, “Pak Yudhi, this is our new Marketing Manager, Bu Padmawati. Bu Padmawati, this is Pak Yudhistira the President of the company.”

Yudhistira turned around to face his new employee. Padmawati moved back a step, her face became pale, but years of experience made her an expert in controlling her emotions. She quickly braced herself, and her expression was impassive once again.

“Bu Padmawati, how do you do? I’m glad that you decided to join our team. Please take a seat.” He said kindly.

Here drink this water it would help calm you down.” Guntoro said while handing her a glass of water.
Endang couldn’t stop herself from sobbing, but she only had herself to blame, if only she had been honest to Widodo, if only she had maintained physical distance from Guntoro, if only………
Guntoro squatted in front of her, putting her hand into his, “If he loved you that much, he should have come and confronted me. Don’t you think? If a man really loves a woman, he would do anything necessary to get rid of the competition, and not give up and run away like that. Instead of winning you over, he let you go.”
“I don’t know, maybe I should have told him from the start about us. And also I should have been more considerate and careful, I mean today is Sunday, the day that he comes and visit me. With the front door open and the two of us…..” She stopped and looked at him, “Why was the front door opened?”

“Are you alright?” Guntoro asked in alarm as he heaved himself up. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
He reached out to help her get up seeing her grimacing in pain he asked again, “Where did you hit yourself?”
“On my ‘none of your business’.” She answered hoarsly while rubbing her buttock then limped down the stairs.
“Oh well, from that response, I can guess you’re just fine.” Guntoro said. “That’s what you get for being an overbearing control freak.”
“Oh, do be quiet.” She sassed. Now arriving at the first floor, she headed directly to the couch and sat down a little bit to the side so she can continue rubbing her behind.
“nDang, are you alright?” Widodo asked gently, “Do you need anything? Maybe we need to put some ointment on your injury.”
“You are not going to put anything on her ‘none of YOUR business’! Do you understand?” Guntoro articulated.

BA AI MOU QIN BY XIN XIN XIANG RONG CHAPTER 15 PART 1

Okay guys, after a long break here's the first part of Chapter 15. I want to thank Sammy for providing me with the raw file. This Chapter is was a little bit difficult for me to interpret, even with my crazy and wild imagination. But this was the best that I can come up with, trying to work my mind around the many many idioms used in this chapter.
By the way, for your information, I have a tendency to be egocentric and narcissist, so any negative comments or nonconstructive criticism would not be posted and will be brutally deleted. I do however, welcome anybody who will kindly volunteer to review the raw translation and correct the interpretation I did in this post, or point out any grammar or spelling mistakes (nicely!).
Please enjoy.......

So true

Endang carefully put down the garnish as the final touches on the serving tray of the dish she just finished cooking. She gently picked up the tray and put it into the oven. She had recently learnt this trick, keeping the plate inside the oven will keep the dish warm a little bit longer.
Guntoro entered the kitchen in his singlet and sweat pants with a small towel wrapped around his neck. “That smells so good!” He announced.
“Of course it does!” Endang replied without looking at him.
She slapped his hand when she saw that he was about to pick up a piece of fried mashed potato patty from one of her serving tray. “Keep your hands off my food!” She warned him.
“Don’t be so stingy.” He complained.

“Mas Wid, how are you?” Endang ran up to her boyfriend and greeted him.
As usual Widodo came to find her to her faculty building to spend sometime in the afternoon together. “nDang, do you want to go and grab something to drink?” he asked.
“Unfortunately I can’t, I have to move out of my dorm room today, I’m going to live with a relative of mine.”
“I didn’t know you had relatives here in Malang. Are you moving far from campus?” He hesitated waiting for her to continue.
“No, my relative, nephew actually, lives just a few blocks away from here. I don’t know if you heard the latest new yet, but the truth is Pak Guntoro my Statistic lecturer is my nephew.”

“Does it hurt?” He asked her.
“What? I don’t understand what you’re asking.” She replied.
“I want to know if you are aching, or bruised.”
“What in the world are you talking about? Are you drunk? Did you take the wrong medicine this morning?” She asked harshly.
“I want to know, when you fell off your high horse. Did it hurt you?” He asked again, “You were always so happy rubbing it in my face that you are my elder, my aunt, and now that you were forced to become my wife, everybody in the family is obligating you  to call me “Mas”, Ha…ha…ha…oh, karma has a subtle way to slap people in the face….” He chuckled.

It took her several minutes to finally snap back to reality. When she came to, her father was lying on top of a pandanus leaf mat with his head on her mother’s lap. His eyes were tightly closed and his breath was short. As she leapt forward and ran towards him, her eyes were filled with tears.

“Bapak, Bapak!” She screamed, “What’s wrong?”
“We need to bring him to my car, quickly we have to take him to the hospital.” Guntoro shouted, getting ready to stand up and run to his car to bring it closer.
Pak Bakrie’s eyes opened slightly, he reached out and grabbed Guntoro’s arm. “Guntoro, my grandson.” He whispered, “I don’t have much time left in this world, you have to promise me something”

It's too late for me to find you
As barriers of life close my way
I want to call out to say I love you
I miss your smile  as bright as day
This is for you the one who loves me

Endang leaned her head against the car window, looking out to Guntoro who was talking to the administration staff in the park way, she couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but by Guntoro’s hand movement, she suspected she was part of the conversation subject. She saw Guntoro and man shaking hands then he walked back to the car and sat at the driver’s side.

“I had to explain to him why I was hugging you by the shoulder back there, he was rebuking me for inappropriate behavior towards a student.” Guntoro volunteered an explanation.
“What did you tell him?”
“The truth, that you’re my aunt, and that the person who called just now was your sister who happens to also be my mother.”

Endang dabbed a shy layer of pink lipstick on her lips. She observed herself and fixed her hair a little bit more. The reflection of her in the full body mirror was to her satisfaction. She pulled out her shirt a little bit from her trousers to cover her waist line. Riski her roommate was lying around lazily in her bed listening to the trendy music on the radio. The DJ’s deep soothing voice made her sigh dreamily.
“I love men with deep voice.” Riski exclaimed.
“I know that by now, you keep repeating it over and over again during Pak[1] Guntoro’s classes.”
“Isn’t his voice so beautiful? So masculine and fatherly. Beside he’s so handsome. I wonder how a man who looks and sounds like him could work as a lecturer in our Campus. He should be an actor or model.”

Where The Sky Meets The Sand Chapter 1.4

Sacre Couer Paris

That day Michelle and Kashfiya was walking briskly maneuvering between a crowd of people who had just finished mass from a Parisian church, Kashfiya's eyes were sparkling with exitment. "I want to introduce you to someone, he's waiting at the cafe around the corner."

"Who is it?" Michelle asked excitedly.

Suddenly a flash of memory passed her eyes of a man in a black veil.

"Tell me Kashfi, who is it?" Michelle asked.

Once they arrived at the coffee shop, they headed to a table where a man was waiting, Kashfiya took the seat beside him, then introduced him to Michelle, "This is Robert"

Robert observed Michelle, then smiled as extended his hand, and she shook his hands gently.

Kishfiya beamed up again,"Robert is my latest boyfriend."

"Nice to meet you," Robert's eyes staring into Michelle's.

Michelle, bowed her head down to avoid eye contact. "I've heard a lot about you for sometime now."

"I know that," the young man said while glancing at Kashfiya.

Robert felt dazzled but appreciative by  beauty of Michelle.

"So are you really intending to go to Kashfiya's country to teach the children there?"

Michelle says "Yes, I really do intend to".

Robert had a solemn expression then asked a serious questions "Have you thought it over properly, Mademoiselle?"

"Please call me Michelle."

"Michelle, okay"

Kashfiya grinned "Robert wants to get married here in Paris," she said. "But we cannot do that."

Robert retorted with a lot of frustration, "Why not?"

Kasfiya  explains, "Because ... I  need to do something else. I have to go back to my country. "

Robert threw the  question "Is there anything more important than love?"

"Yes,"

"I do not understand nothing in the world is more important than love. Only love can make people do anything, "Roberto said.

Michelle interrupts "Love has many sides, love is not just between man and woman only. "

Roberto protested serious attitude, "but the most important love is of man and woman. I would do anything for love ".

"Michelle are you going to help me with Robert?" Kashfiya asked in frustration.

"Are you?" There was a small saprkle in Robert's eyes. As for Michelle, she felt fortunate that Kashfiya did not see it.

Michelle nodded her head gently and said seriously, "I know that in Kasfiya's country. Study is intended for boys only. "

"Yes, while there is some progress, but most people in my country do not have access to it. But with Michelle's help, we hope that we can actually have a  faster development."

"Lets make it come true" Michelle said firmly. "I want to know more about your country. I'm not going to let my life go to waste. I'm ready to fight for a meaningful life." The French-Asian mix eyes sparkled.

Morocco's Sahara Desert sand dune

Michelle couldn't sleep that night. Amazingly she had the same dream again. It was a vast desert stretching until the blue horizon. She was lost in the desert, she was alone, suddenly a man in black robes appeared as if from the far horizon.

Michelle moved restlessly in her bed.

In the dream, his robes and veils were flapping in the wind.

"Help me, please, help me, I'm lost."

He came closer to her, his face covered by the veil, "Help me, help me....." She pleaded, "Help me, I'm lost."

He held out his hand, it was covered by a equally black glove (ES: gloves? In the desert? Oh well...). Michelle, caught his hand then looked up at his covered face. She could only see his sharp brilliant eyes.

"You're going to be alright, I have found you right here."

Their hands hold together firmly.

"Will you help me, huh?. I am a nobody, but I need your help " the orphaned girl cried.

A few moments later, she and the man were walking hand in hand across the desert.

"Where is this?"

"This is the dream planes."

She looked around, but they were there all alone.

A few moments later, they were standing face to face, looking at each other. Now she can see his face in the shadows.

He gave her a caution, his voice echoing throughout the desert, "The desert is a dangerous place, you have to be alert and careful."

"Yes I will do as you say."

"I will take care of you, I will protect you...."

"Who are you? What's your name...?"

"My name is........."

Suddenly Michelle, felt somebody shaking her body, she jerked up from her bed, to see Kashfiya sitting beside her. "Michelle." She said, "Michelle, you had a nightmare."

Michelle was now wide awake "Hmm ..." eyes turned to her firend. "Kashfiya ... I ... was dreaming again, it was that dream again"

"About what?" Kashfiya asked.

Michelle does not look like she was fully conscious.

BAMQ Chapter 15 Notice

Hi Guys,

This week you will have to bear with me a bit for the translation. You see, for somebody like me whose Chinese vocabulary is limited to “Wo Ai Ni” translating Chinese novels chapters at a time can be frustrating. There are a lot of gray matter and imagination involved, and sometimes it just gets overwhelming. To give you an example I have to turn this:
That cold cold of blamed tone, makes Ji Qing full grievance rushed up, is around find not to vent export, abruptly hold has back, she not knows the how with seal Jincheng explained these, too trivial, say, even she explained has, doubted seal Jincheng will think she in sophistry, and children sick is facts, facts before, she said what are extra, only this unit grievance hard hold has back, can orbital is couldn't help began some Misty, that share moisture, fundamental cannot control.

Into this:
Hearing him blaming her, Ji Qing filled up with grievance, she looked around to find a way not to vent her anger, trying hard to hold herself back. She didn’t know how to start explaining the situation to Jin Cheng. And even if she tried, she doubted that Jin Cheng will believe her. The fact is the child is lying there sick. She felt a misty haze building in her eyes, she was losing her self-control.

As you see I do not literally translate, I paraphrase the paragraph, so you would need to excuse the deviation from the original author’s writing style, but I do my utmost to keep the content intact. Just think of me as a script writer adapting your favorite book into a drama :P.

Why am I writing this? Because the translation of Chapter 15 on the engines is somewhat screwed, so I have to pick deeply into my “right side of the brain” to make sense of it.

Okay, back to my Word Document now, wish me luck................

Where The Sky Meets The Sand Chapter 1.3

Eiffel Tower in the 1970-s

Part 3

Time went by and Michele and Kashfiya went to study in Paris, but she was so busy that she didn't even have time to visit the famous tourist destinations, like Eiffel Tower, Champ Elysee, Arc de Triomphe not even Moulin Rouge.

Dan Brown: Inferno

inferno_book_cover-480

I am an avid fan of Dan Brown, especially the Robert Langdon series, ever since I read The Davinci Code back in 2004, although, I must say back then, in my imagination, Langdon does not look like Tom Hanks, by the way. I like to stick to my personal portrayal of him. So I'm saving my money on cinema tickets for the upcoming movie adaptation.

Any way  last year when I heard that a new book to this series was coming out, I had my finger on my mouse ready to click the purchase button. I enjoyed it so much, a doomsday conspiracy story with a twist.

As per the cover picture of the book and the title, the story revolves around the first cantica of the Divine Comedy by Dante Alghieri. (There are mixed opinions on how this book influenced major world religions. I'm keeping my opinion on this to myself).

Summary:

The story starts with Langdon waking up in a hospital in Florence with no recollection of what happened in the past day and a half. Thus beginning his adventure accompanied by a beautiful yet genius physician, and strangely being pursued by a sinister underground organization and the police. Such as the Da Vinci Code, he must use his expertise in Symbology to decipher the trail left by the villain that is mapped out in the contents of The Divine Comedy. His mission is to stop the leashing of a new genetically engineered plague to the world.

Inspiring quotes: Manuscript Found In Accra by Paulo Coelho

The Divine Energy is listening to us when we speak to other people, but also when we are still and silent and able to accept solitude as a blessing.
And in that moment, Its light illuminates everything around us and helps us to see that we are necessary, that our presence on Earth makes an immense difference to Its work.

Madame Turned around sharply, her expression was exited with anticipation as the door slowly opened, Michelle entered. She stood up bracing herself, and gazed at Michelle. Looking at each other.

“Michelle, Madame and your grandparents are staying at St. Valarie the coastal town nearby for a vacation. This is Madame de la Ville de Nice, their daughter in law. She has been donating money to the church to provide for your necessities.” Said Mother Superior.

Ba Ai Mou Qin by Xin Xin Xiang Rong Chapter 14 Part 2

After calming down, Ji Qing gave herself a chance to reflect, what Jin Cheng said was true, as a mother she was somewhat to blame for Xue’s condition, she led her daughter to suffer sickness, Ji Qing felt a streak of regret in her heart. The apology from Jin Cheng, made her realize that maybe given a chance he can be more understanding. Her chain of thoughts was interrupted by the sound of Xiao Xue’s coughing.

The child is too young, she will not endure so many sickness. Crying endlessly while coughing, with phlegm stuck on her lungs, she tried to cough it out, but her face turned flushed red, almost purple.

This really scared Jin Cheng, he felt a panic not knowing what to do. Ji Qing hel her child and coaxed her gently, patting her back and coaxing her to spit out the phlem.

After coughing and crying for some time, Xue, fell asleep, all spent. Ji Qing carefully place her in the bed, a drop of sweat was beading her brow, she shrugged seemingly to wake up again, Ji Qing held her again to cradle her to sleep.

“Let me hold her, while you rest….” Ji Qing turned her head, she placed Xue in Jin Cheng’s arms, to her the sight seemed somewhat strange, and he was still awkward making a very unnatural posture. Unexpectedly Xue didn’t wake up though, she remained asleep comfortably.

After ensuring that the child was sleeping better, he gently put her on the bed and looked up at Ji Qing,”When Xiao Xue gets better, let’s go home…”

Ji Qing’s eyes lighted up, lowered her head in silence, it’s obvious he did not want to divorce her, and he wants her to come back and live with him, she can see that he feels happy and proud about the child, and now he is offering the three of them to live together as a family.

Ji Qing felt really moved by this man, and today in just a few hours, Ji Qing had discovered a hidden part of him, an attentive, unobtrusive and sweet.

Between a man and a woman as long as there is love, you can lose all rational judgment, even if it’s a mistake and you can see it clearly in front of your very eyes, you’ll always make justifications. And she is definitely foolishly in love with him.

Ji Qing wanted so badly to go back with Jin Cheng, to continue her life beside him, even though she’s not sure if he love her or not. Perhaps love is not of that importance.

Then suddenly she Zhang Lu’s smiley face flashed before her eyes, she was shining and elegant, how Jin Cheng looks at her,  these two Jin Cheng and Zhang Lu are perfect for each other, just like if they were born to be a pair. Now she can see herself stuck in the middle, so poor and pathetic.

She did not want to be that kind of woman, dying of sadness. The constant struggle to see a smile on Jin Cheng’s face, she doesn’t want to go through that again, but at this point of time, she was to tired to argue.

Jin Cheng never knew, how this idea crossed Ji Qing’s mind over 100 times. Ji Qing was always able to change his moods, and now their child will be discharged from the hospital. Seeing that she didn’t respond he held the child fearing that she might take her away and disappear without a trace.

Squinting his eyes giving a cold look at the woman, gnashing of teeth and asked: "Are you really going to court with me to divorce? ”

Cavity Inducing: Fah Jarod Sai - Where the sky meets the sands

300px-Fah_Jarod_Sai_poster

I usually watch lakorn for one thing, and one thing only, the cultural similarity with my very missed Bali Island, and also to oggle and drool at any scene with green papaya salad or green mango salad, or any Thai cuisine for that matter (make it 2 things). Well, I'm not going to dwell on that topic though.

Another habit of mine, is to stay clear about any Middle Eastern topics, be it politics, socioeconomic, and above all fiction. Let's say that Harlequin has left me traumatized with titles like "The Sheik's bla bla bla...." or "Bla bla bla with the Sheik" or the likes. But again, I am not going to dwell on that topic.

Fah Jarod Sai is a lakorn adapted from a novel by Sopak Suwan (โสภาค สุวรรณ), who by the way at the time when she wrote the book had never been to the middle east, but based the cultural or religious contents from letters that she received from her mother. So please, we will not dwell on this topic.

Through all the Production imperfections, casting cringes, make up bloopers, and the story line inconsistency obviously because of editing and censorship , Fah Jarod Sai is a very, very very sweet love story.

Lets get to know our OTP. The heroine is Michelle a French-Asian mix, although it was never specified what Country in Asia, but according to the author, there needs to be a Thai touch so that the Thai readers do not feel alienated. And our hero Colonel Sharif  M.D.  (Medical Doctor), cousin to the king, also his Royal Guard, military strategist, and physician. So Sharif is dashing handsome and gallant, and Michelle is noble, sincere, and beautiful. Sharif is a tough dessert man and Michelle is noble, sincere, and beautiful. Sharif can fight of insurgents, battle with a sword, and practice medicine, and Michelle is noble, sincere, and beautiful.

So the lakorn goes that Michell De La Roni (Heaven knows if that's a French surname at all) being an orphan living in a convent in France, had a friend who is the daughter of a Middle Eastern billionaire, Kashfiya. Now I can understand the girl, after living all her life in a very closed and protected environment, she was sent to study in France where it's not so closed and protected, naturally she slipped. She started dating a Parisian call Robert and was madly in love with him, until her brother caught them together, so he decided to send her back to their country. With a promise of opening a school, she took Michelle with her. Well Michelle had nothing to lose, as her family straight up told her that they do not want anything to do with her because she is not a "Pure Breed". Now Michelle had dreams of a mysterious dessert man every night, when she told her bestie about it, Kashfiya started to get jealous thinking that Michelle had a crush on Robert.

So once they arrived at the fictive Kingdom Of Hinfara things didn't turn out as expected for Michelle, the culture shock of gender separation, a best friend gone loca, and her best friend's boy friend trying to hit on her. So Kashfiya out of spite an jealousy arranged for Michelle to go in her stead when she heard that she was to enter the King's harem. There Michelle met Sharif. On the night that Michelle was supposed to officially enter the harem, Prince Omar, the King's brother raised a coup d 'etat killing the King and his men. Sharif and Michelle escaped to the vast dessert where their adventure took place, where Michelle was disguised as Tafa the servant boy for Doctor Sharif, and where Sharif was constantly trying to score it with her and Michelle constantly pushing him away mainly because of her own prejudice and insecurities (A near death experience gave him the actual chance, BTW). But the drama depicts how love grows in unexpected situations.

The story is very light and shallow, contains no moral lessons what so ever, pure entertainment wrapped in an outstanding desert scenery.

Any who, not wanting to spoil the story for you. This is a very good drama, great costume,  Tui Teerapat Satjakul was sizzling hot, Kwan Usamanee Vaithayanon beautiful, also a long list of gorgeous supporting actresses exceptionally great sound track, not your cliche lakorn, no rape, no cat fight, just beautiful. If your not the type to feel sensitive about the religious issues surrounding the production, this is for you.

If you are in need of fluff and sweetness like I was these pass weeks, I highly recommend it.

On a side note, I did get my hands on what I think is the novel version, obviously I'm translating it for the fun of it to have in my archives, I don't know if I will be uploading it to the blog, although if I get many hits on this post I probably will share it either through email or posting. For my Thai friends out there I am welcoming any volunteers for Content Consistency Control.

Here is the link to the translation, please only proceed if you are comfortable with the theme

Ba Ai Mou Qin by Xin Xin Xiang Rong Chapter 14 Part 1

Infant pneumonia is very common, especially with week children such as Xiao Xue, depending on the season, these infants can easily catch a high fever, cough, which occasionally lead to pneumonia. Ji Qing had wanted to give the child pneumonia vaccine, but the side effects can be too much, she was afraid that Xue’s body couldn’t stand it, the doctor’s did not recommend it, so she finally decided not to go ahead with the idea.

Jin Cheng wasn’t aware of this situation, being a first time father, seeing he daughter lying weak in bed, he felt an overwhelming fatherly love, and hearing that Ji Qing didn’t give her a pulmonary vaccine, it burnt him from the inside, when the doctor left, he sprang up

“You didn’t give the child a vaccine? What kind of mother are you? Don’t you know how difficult it is now that the child is sick?”

She bit her lip, ducked her head, turned and sat on the Xue’s bed, giving no explanation and no resolution, just sitting there in silent. Jin Cheng felt a pang of guilt in his heart when he saw the hurt in her eyes..

In fact, he is waiting for her explanation or resolution. Then it hit him. Jin Cheng suddenly realized that his problem may be that he was never able to communicate with Ji Qing. He spoke to her, but she never responded earnestly. He who prided himself to be able to read the minds of women, but he cannot even guess what is going on inside his own wife’s head.

When Ji Qing left him, he never stopped to analyze what she was thinking or feeling that made her suddenly leave. In fact, he always believed that a few months before she left him their relationship was improving.

He realized that he would always snubbed her during their newly wedded period, every time she tried to express herself when she wasn’t satisfied with something. Even so, in the last few months, he felt that they bonded well, both body and soul, he was going through a tender feeling of joy, sort of like a rebirth.

When Jin Cheng was out socializing or even away from home, he was always anxious to hurry home. He kind of had a sense of belonging to his own home.  He was being less picky on things, and when she disappeared, he always though on how to reconcile those feelings.

So now he realized that he has to clear things with this woman, but he found it not easy, she was head strong to keep a tight lip, and give him a stubborn glare.

Thinking back, he was a little bit too much. He never tried to understand his wife, not to mention now that they have a weak child between them. As a result the three of them couldn’t find perfect happiness.

This ward only have single rooms, Xiao Xue had fallen asleep, and the two adults present were not speaking to each other. This made the room seem a bit empty, Jin Cheng glanced at Ji Qing and sighed. Then turned around.

There was a sound of the doors closing, a long strain of tear tolled out of Ji Qing’s eye.  Jin Cheng came back again about half an hour later, with two insulated lunch box in one hand and then he put it on the bedside table, nothing good: "Eat! If you get sick, no one will take care of you ... ..."

Ji Qing hesitated and did not look up at him but opened the lunch box, the top one was her favorite thin porridge, it was a fragrant glutinous rice porridge, this man's attention, was quite surprising.

He sat on the bed side, his hand gently touched Xiao Xue’s forehead, she was cool now, and her fever had gone down. He slipped his hand into a bag that was on the bedside table, and took out a new wash cloth, he walked over to the bathroom, and brought out a cup of warm water. Jin Cheng gently wiped the sweat from his child’s forehead. He then took out his computer put it on the bedside table and began to work.

When he finished with his work, he found that he didn’t know where to put the cup of warm water in his hand, suddenly he felt a warmth radiating from the cup, tickling his internal organs,  a nice and comfortable feeling warming his heart.

Jin Cheng lifted his head and looked to the other side, he saw Ji Qing, she was dazzling under the soft light of the wall lamp, and the warm light stained her eye brow, hairline and temple, creating an exceptionally soft contour, her eyelids slightly drooping, casting a perfectly symmetrical facial feature.

Feeling his gaze on her, she lifted her head and looked up at him. His eyes were reddish, then he softly murmured, “I’m sorry….”

Ji Qing looked at him with surprise, what a miracle, the man apologized to her. To be honest, this was a bit of a shock, magical in fact, especially coming from Jin Cheng. With his arrogance and machismo, apologizing to a woman just seemed out of the question.

The Mrs. Long San Who Wishes To Be Divorced Part II

The fourth day after Feng Ning's departure, the Feng Ning and Yu Mama who should have originally arrived home before noon, still had not returned. Long San couldn't help but admit, he was extremely worried. He sent someone to inquire after them; and finally after nightfall, Yu Mama and Feng Ning's chariot reached home.

Feng Ning jumped down first, and seeing Long San standing by the door, happily rushed over: “Long San, Long San, I’m back.”

Long San nodded his head in reply, then saw Yu Mama unexpectedly limping down supported by a servant, and said in shock: “What happened here?”

Long Er received the news and came out, the moment he saw Yu Mama’s injury, he frowned and shot a look at Feng Ning. Feng Ning waved her hands and shook her head: “It’s not my fault, Yu Mama twisted her foot.”

Long Er coldly glanced at her again, and did not say anything. He sent someone to call Doctor Chen, then went over himself to help Yu Mama, and went into the house.

Feng Ning creased her face: “Why is Er Bo so fierce?”

“Were you acting unruly again?” Long San’s tone was also bad.

Feng Ning pouted, and quietly admitted: “I wasn’t acting unruly, at most it would count as not being able to control my temper.”

“What exactly happened?”

“I quarreled with the elder monk, Yu Mama came over to pull me away, and as a result fell down and twisted her foot.”

Long San only felt so angry that he couldn’t even sigh, and could only ask: “How can you even quarrel with a monk?”

Feng Ning also felt quite wronged: “He wouldn’t let me eat my fill, saying something about eating less and not talking throughout the process*, these I all endured, but he starved me for two days, and after the exorcism, there wasn’t the least bit of food. On the last day he still wouldn’t let me eat more, and even wanted me to go on top of Feng Tai** and use some spell and then do the expulsion once. He said I suffered evil influences in the water, and must be immersed in water, hearing those several monks reciting some scripture thing and carrying out some kind of method, and with that basin so deep, so big……” Feng Ning gestured as she spoke: “Of course I was unwilling, so I just asked a few questions.”

Feng Ning mumbled, remembering her tone when she asked wasn’t very good, now felt somewhat guilty, and then she spoke again: “The elder monk scolded me, I started feeling anxious and my voice also became loud. Yu Mama, seeing us get rather noisy, hurriedly came over, which resulted in her twisting her foot.

Feng Ning, under Long San’s glare, became quieter and quieter, and then didn’t have anything else to say, so she acted pitiful and looked at him. Long San was somewhat angry, this woman, goes out for only three days and causes trouble. Feng Ning, seeing no pleasure on his face, also became upset, and softly blurted out: “I was starving, and also didn’t sleep well at night, Yu Mama snores, and they also wanted to throw me into the water, I already endured a lot, you can’t blame me.”

Long San didn’t know what to say, and could only shake his head, turn around, and leave. Feng Ning followed behind him the entire way: “Really can’t blame me……” But Long San didn’t respond, he walked to Yu Mama’s residence to check on her injury, Feng Ning leaned by the doorway and looked, and decided she had better retreat first.

In Yu Mama’s room, Doctor Chen attentively looked over her injury, after all, she was older and shouldn’t fall over, but fortunately it wasn’t anything major, only then did Long Er and Long San relax.

Long San said to Yu Mama: “Mama, don’t blame Feng Ning, I will properly scold her.” Long Er looked at him, Long San looked back at him.

Yu Mama replied: “That girl ah, everyday acting so crazy, the spirit can’t be expelled, we still have to think of how to deal with this.”

Long Er opened his mouth a few times, glanced at Long San, and stopped himself from saying the words “expel the person”.

Long San turned towards Docter Chen: “Are there any other methods of treatment?”

Docter Chen shook his head: “San Ye, Madame’s head injury definitely isn’t much of a problem anymore, she also doesn’t have any other problems with her health, she only needs to take medicine for her dizziness and oft occurring nightmares, the rest, I positively can’t do anything about. This matter of memory loss, is also the first time I’ve come across it.

Although this answer came as no surprise to Long San, but he was still somewhat disappointed. He and Yu Mama and Long Er talked for a while, and then returned to their own residences. As he was leaving, Yu Mama said: “San Ye, Feng Ning is indeed very different from before, but this is affair is just too odd, you and her right now are quite close, it is still better if you stay on guard some.”

Long San nodded in reply, and saw Long Er’s expression had much of the same opinion as Yu Mama; he silently walked out. He stood at the courtyard door for a while, then finally decided to return to his own room.

These three days while Feng Ning was gone, he was concerned for her, but now that she returned, he actually somewhat didn’t want to see her. If he saw her, he would think of the issue of whether to divorce her of not, and this matter made him feel somewhat frustrated.

But even if he didn’t take the initiative to see her, Feng Ning would actively come nonetheless. Sure enough during the night, Feng Ning came holding her pillow.

“Long San, let me tell you ah, these last three days have indeed been painful, the bowls at the temple is this small, one meal, one bowl of rice, with only vegetables and Tofu to fill the stomach, it is really easy to go hungry. And on top of that ah, I didn’t sleep well, Yu Mama’s snoring is very loud.” She appeared to have forgotten the unpleasantness of earlier, endlessly complaining to him.

“Then sleep by yourself, then you don’t need to hear snoring.”

“No good, I’d rather listen to snoring than drown.” After Feng Ning laid her pillow down, she lay down: “I’m going to sleep first, so tired, so tired.”

Long San looked at her peaceful sleeping face, unclear of what he was feeling, he didn’t know how she would turn out if she were to recover her memories one day, he didn’t know how she would fare after she left the Long Residence, he also didn’t know from now on, who would accompany her when she was alone and had nightmares.

Should they really send her away?

* Not sure exactly what she’s saying here, so this is just a guess.

** Again, I’m not too sure, I believe it’s just the summit of a mountain there.

Like Dragons Flying and Phoenixes Dancing by Ming Yue Ting Feng Chapter 17 Part 1

Sorry guys, I’ve been so tired and unmotivated recently, this chapter isn’t boring, but the latter half of the chapter kind of annoys me a tiny bit haha, so unfortunately it will only be the first part of the chapter today. The next chapter is super cute though, so wait for it!

Also, I don’t know if it was ever clarified, but Long Da, Long Er, and Long San are called as such because in Chinese family hierarchy the oldest child  would be called  老大 Lao Da – ‘Eldest child’,  then 老二 Lao Er ‘second eldest child’ and 老三 Lao San for ‘third eldest child’, and so on down the line; therefore, Long Fei (which is Long San’s name in case you forgot) is often called many different ways e.g. Long San, Lao San, San Ye, etc. All containing the number 三San (three). I thought I should mention it just in case it got too confusing because of all their different names. Hopefully I didn’t just make it more confusing haha.

The Mrs. Long San Who Wishes To Be Divorced (Part I)

Once Long San hardened his heart, he no longer thought of exactly how Feng Ning was doing at the temple, over there there was Yu Mama and there were bodyguards, Feng Ning herself also knew Martial Arts, moreover, there were no rivers in the surrounding area; she should be safe with no problems. He put it from his mind, and started arranging a search according to the portrait.

The next day, Long Er returned. The two brothers held a meeting and straightened out the context of some matters. One, was settling the troublesome affairs of the Long Family business in other parts of the country when Long Er went out this time, he confirmed that this matter had something to do with the Feng Family; second was, there were no news at all about the stolen treasure in JiangHu, it could be assumed that, if it wasn’t lost in the river, then the other party already discovered that it was a fake; third was, Long San got someone to keep an eye on the Feng Family, to watch their recent activity, but there wasn’t any information on the treasure or of the previous attack on Long San; fourth was, the two attacks and drowning of Feng Ning, should not have been the doing of the same person. Long Er hearing this, furrowed his brows: “Then it seems the things Feng Ning stirred up is not limited to just one.”

“That person that she remembered, I already sent his picture out, and yesterday also made inquiries at the places Feng Ning had often been to, no one has ever seen him. According to the past Feng Ning’s personality, she should not have had feelings for someone with this kind of appearance, those silk rope love tokens, perhaps wasn’t meant for him. As for his actual identity, let’s wait for news and then see.”

“Speaking of feelings, you should also take note of yourself.” Long Er said: “When you’re dealing with that Feng Ning, you should still keep your guard up. The so-called ‘hard to change one’s inherent nature’[1]; at that time, she was already able to fool around all over the place, so she’s not some faithful or dependable woman. Now, she’s lost her memory, and with you being friendly with her this way, she immediately stuck on to you; this can also attest to her personality.”

“Er ge, no matter how you put it, I am still her husband. These days she’s helplessly scared, naturally she would look for someone to rely on; being dependent on me is excusable.”

“This is exactly what I’m afraid of.” Long Er said bluntly: “You are starting to speak on her behalf. Lao San, any kind of behavior can be justified. But this Feng Ning, just as we were preparing to strike the Feng family, made a move and stole the item, after being caught, she immediately loses her memory. After losing her memory, her entire person changes, the item that was stolen disappeared without a trace and with no news, and now, it is a fact that she had something to do with the attack on you, all these timely coincidences are too uncanny. I certainly don’t care what kind of person she’s become now, if she’s a threat to our Long family, I absolutely won’t let her get away with it.”

“Er ge, I haven’t not guarded against her, only, just like you said, her person has entirely changed, being excessively hostile towards her is not fair.  She definitely has no bad intentions, don’t worry, I will handle this properly.”

Long Er said: “In my opinion, you should just take this opportunity to divorce her and send her back to the Feng family, and also conveniently settle the matters with them.”

Long San didn’t immediately reply, his heart somewhat hesitant.

Long Er raised his eyebrow, asked: “What?”

“Er ge, let’s wait until after we’ve finished investigating the circumstances on the Feng family, and then decide on what to arrange.”

“What does you divorcing her have anything to do with the situation on the Feng family? Regardless of what the ultimate details behind the attack and theft are, in the end it is the work of Feng Ning. She already violated all Seven Reasons for Divorcing a Wife[3], you can confidently and justly divorce her. We should take advantage of this, while we have evidence against the Feng Family in our hands, and conveniently settle this matter.”

“Then if the Feng Family don’t actually treat her well?” The one he was worried about was Feng Ning: “Right now, she no longer has memories of the past, she already feels left alone with no one to rely on, and is easily scared and flustered; then as soon as she finally becomes familiar with us, she gets divorced and sent home, if by chance the Feng family take their anger out on her, or did not treat her well to begin with, then with her living in that kind of environment, what would be done then?”

“Lao San!” Long Er was shocked: “Are you pitying her?”

Long San didn’t speak, this woman could create trouble to torment him with every day, when she spoke she would also piss people off; but he pitied her?

Long Er said: “Just be at ease, this Feng Ning has been wanting to return home all along, no matter how things are, a married woman’s parents’ home is always more favorable than their husband’s home. First divorce her, and then we can slowly investigate what the truth behind this matter is, right now this is the perfect opportunity.”

But Long San still did not say anything, he thought of Feng Ning’s sweet smiling expression, of her agreement in the letter to leave him, and also of her miserable expression as she looked at him and said: “Don’t abandon me ah, Long San.”

Sending her away, just as she finally started adapting to this house, was it really okay?

In the end, Long San and Long Er didn’t actually reach an agreement on the matter of divorcing Feng Ning. Previously, because of their ancestor’s promise of marriage, it was difficult to say anything, now it was holding evidence, the Seven Reasons for Divorcing a Wife, even an attempt on husband’s life; if these were revealed, forget divorce, they could even report it to the government.

[1] 本性难移Běnxìng nán yí – Long Er refers to this phrase which means ‘it’s hard to change one’s inherent nature’. It usually goes in the idiom江山易改,本性难移 ‘It is easier to change mountains and rivers, than to change one’s inherent nature.”

[3] This actually cracked me up haha. -- 七出之条Qī chū zhī tiáo or the ‘Seven Reasons for Divorcing a Wife’ are as such: A husband can divorce his wife if she: 1. Is not filial, 2. Has no son, 3. Is promiscuous, 4. Has a tendency to be jealous, 5. Has a serious disease, 6. Is a gossip monger or has a big mouth, 7. Steals.

Like Dragons Flying and Phoenixes Dancing by Ming Yue Ting Feng Chapter 16

The Mrs. Long San Who Causes Others to Worry

This question didn’t bother Long San for very long, as he was unable to figure it out, naturally he was temporarily not impatient. He could always accommodate matters, thus he fell asleep. His hand was still being held by Feng Ning, just under the blanket, one big one small, two hands holding each other in one place. He ignored this, and quickly fell into the land of dreams.

This night, he was awaken from sleep twice by Feng Ning’s nightmares, however, when he woke up early the next morning, he still felt like he slept very well. Feng Ning was in even greater spirits, laughing very cheerfully. But she was about to leave with Yu Mama to the spiritual temple at the outskirts of the city, to let an elder monk perform exorcism. As this was arranged by Yu Mama, she was unable to refuse.

Unexpectedly, Long San could sense her unease. He didn’t point it out, but he did a few things to distract her.

He accompanied her to eat breakfast, and also drew a simple drawing of the man she spoke of last night. Feng Ning looked at it, furrowed her brows, and thought for a while and said it should be more or less the same. But she also recalled another question: “Say, Long San, that colored silk rope, it couldn’t also be his, could it?”

Long San said: “At that time, that guy had his face covered, I didn’t actually see his appearance.”

Feng Ning opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything. Long San asked: “What, did you think of something again?”

Feng Ning shook her head, Long San stared at her, staring until she felt guilty, and quietly stammered: “I was just thinking, I couldn’t have had any relationship with him right? He’s so ugly.” Mentioning the matter of relationships with other men, Feng Ning still felt ashamed and uneasy, but the truth was indeed laid out there, that man’s appearance was repulsive, one look and one could tell he was not a good person. She couldn’t have been that unperceptive and fooled around with him, right? Just thinking of this possibility made her feel quite disgusted. She curled her lip, with an expression of being unable to bear the thought.

Long San couldn’t help touching his face, fortunately he didn’t lack in looks, moreover, seeing his considerable popularity with women, and having enjoyed many admiring gazes, he should be the very good looking type.

He lifted his eyes, and met Feng Ning’s clear gaze, he hurriedly put on a stern expression, and insincerely rubbed his chin, pondering: “It seems he may not be, moreover, that silk rope, since you cannot remember clearly anymore, it also may not necessarily have anything to do with that kind of relationship.”

Feng Ning drooped her head: “Long San, you’re a good person, you’re comforting me.” This kind of situation for a man is incredibly insulting, she felt extremely sorry towards him.

Actually, she did use all her strength to try to remember, hoping she could know exactly what had happened a little faster, but when she exerted too much effort trying to remember, she would get a headache, but she was also scared people would say she was pretending. As a result, every time she got a headache, she would endure it. Fortunately, this headache problem didn’t happen too often, and also wasn’t too hard to bear.

“This matter, leave it to me to investigate. Just feel at ease and go with Yu Mama.” After Long San said this, Feng Ning nodded her head, went back to her room, fetched her things, and prepare to set off with Yu Mama. Before she left, she handed Long San a letter, telling him not to look, and only said to wait until she came back, and then return the letter to her. Long San failed to understand the reason why, but nevertheless nodded his head and agreed.

Yu Mama was calling people to hurry, Long San sent Feng Ning to the gate. Surely enough, the carriage was already parked over there waiting, maids were carrying while Yu Mama was on one side waiting.

Long San told Feng Ning, once she was there, she should do as she was told, must not be unruly and get angry, that place was an important Buddhist location, and Yu Mama was very serious. Feng Ning fiercely nodded her head. Long San said, Yu Mama is already very old, don’t be naughty and cause trouble while over there and cause her to worry and get angry. Feng Ning responded okay again.

And then Feng Ning asked: “Then after three days, will you come pick me up?”

Long San blanked, he subconsciously resisted, and rapidly said: “I’m very busy, you and Yu Mama will come back together.” These last two days, he was overly close to her, this really should not be.

Feng Ning was somewhat disappointed, and gloomily replied a single “Oh.” And then turned around and climbed into the carriage with Yu Mama. Long San was about to turn and return to the house, when he suddenly saw Feng Ning open the carriage door and rush down again.

“Long San, Long San, could you help me tell Yu Mama, that the few days that I’m in the temple, I want to sleep with her in the same room.”  Indeed, she was still concerned about the nightmares. Long San helplessly could only go forward and tell Yu Mama. Yu Mama was astonished, looked at Long San, and then looked at Feng Ning, ultimately still agreeing.

Feng Ning once more mounted the carriage, Long San stood at the door watching, waiting for them to be on their way. In the end, the coachman had just raised the whip, when Feng Ning pushed open the doors once again, and came down.

“Long San, Long San, if the temple’s food can’t satiate my hunger, what do I do? Can you help me tell them, to have the monks give me some more food.”

Long San sighed, and called: “Feng Ning.”

“Mm.” Feng Ning answered, her expression very innocent; she really wasn’t trying to cause trouble.

“It’s only three days, you won’t go hungry, and will also be able to sleep well, it’s only trying some methods, doing some exorcism, just a ritual, that’s all. That temple also doesn’t have any rivers surrounding it, and there are also bodyguards going with you, you’re not in the least bit of danger. You must not make any more disturbances, obediently go with Yu Mama.”

“Oh.” The disappointment in Feng Ning’s voice was very obvious. She silently walked towards the chariot, taking a few steps, and turned around again: “Long San, if I’m exorcised away, don’t blame me, I didn’t go willingly.”

“Mm, I won’t blame you.” Long San answered, mentally thinking, it’s not like you’re a demon, how would you be exorcised away.

Feng Ning pursed her lips, turned around preparing to walk towards the carriage. Before even lifting her foot, she turned around again:“Long San, it’s only three days that’s all, can’t you come with us?”

“Feng Ning……” Long San’s dragged the sound, warning her.

Feng Ning rapidly turned around, and rushed towards the chariot: “I got it, I got it!” She jumped onto the carriage, and waved goodbye very hard to Long San. This time the carriage finally started moving without a hitch, speeding up, and gradually disappearing before Long San’s eyes.

Long San entered the residence, thought for a bit, then went to Feng Ning’s room. The maid who was left behind to take care of things seeing him come, was very surprised. Long San waved his hand and said it’s nothing, sending her away.

He stretched out his hand and picked up that jewelry box, felt around it, opened that interval layer, and discovered that this time, there was unexpectedly a paper filled with words hidden inside, resembling a letter.

Long San’s heart stirred, could it be another mysterious person who did it, in order to pass information to Feng Ning? He opened the letter, took one look, and was unexpectedly shocked. This was actually a letter Feng Ning wrote to Feng Ning.

As it turns out, she was actually really afraid, afraid that after this trip to get exorcised, she didn’t know what would happen, after all, this time, her experience was unimaginable. She feared, going this time, she would lose this present her. So she wrote a letter of reminder.

The letter said, if she couldn’t remember what happened during this period of time, but still remembered that this box has a hidden interval layer, then she definitely returned to being the past Feng Ning. She hoped that the past Feng Ning would listen well to the words of the present Feng Ning.

She said she didn’t know what had happened in the past, but staying at the Long Residence during this period of time, she can confirm that the Long residents were all good people, she hoped the past Feng Ning, no matter what she did, or planned to do, would have a clear conscience, and not make any mistakes.

She said, she felt that she herself shouldn’t have been a bad woman, so she believed that no matter what the past Feng Ning did, she must have had some reason, some difficulties. She urged herself, if she really had difficulties, then it would be better if after she takes care of relationship with all parties, she sincerely had a talk with the Long Family, because she believed it would definitely be possible to properly talk things over and resolve everything.

She even wrote down, that Long San treated her very well, it was only because she could completely rely on him, that she could find a sense of security and a bit of happiness in this unfamiliar place where she was loathed. She said, although Long Er is very petty, but he isn’t a malicious person. Yu Mama is strict, but also isn’t really horribly mean. There was also that untalkative and not often seen steward Tie, actually, he is also an honest and considerate person. She said after she lost her memory, she was instead able to look at these matters from another perspective, hoping her past self would could also let go of her prejudices, and properly assess and handle matters.

The letter even wrote, she had already agreed to divorce Long San, and give him freedom, hoping her past self wouldn’t rescind her own promise, and at the appropriate time, talk it over with her family, and clearly settle it with the Long Family.

At the end of the letter, she wrote: if there is sincere treatment, there must be some in return. Since you are me, you will definitely know my intentions, you musn’t make mistakes, if you treat people well, people will treat you well.

And at the very bottom was a small line: to prove the legitimacy of this letter, I will leave my fingerprint here. If you doubt the source of this letter, please press your fingerprint and compare the two, and then you will know the truth. To the side of this line of words, there really was a distinct fingerprint.

After Long San finished reading this letter, he really didn’t know what this feeling in his heart was. This Feng Ning; this seemingly carefree, simple-minded, trouble making, Feng Ning who only cares to eat, was actually this scrupulous.

He sat in her room for a long time, thinking, then also taking out the letter she handed to him, deciding to open and secretly take a look. This letter’s content was more or less the same as the one of the letter in the box, only in the beginning she explained that she was worried that she would forget the things that happened during this period of time, so she wrote a letter to Long San to pass on to her.

Long San suddenly felt like he knew what Feng Ning would do. He set about rummaging through Feng Ning’s room. In her closet, in her chest, as well as beneath her bedding; sure enough, all hid a letter with the exact same content.

“Don’t blame me, I didn’t go willingly.” Long San thought of Feng Ning’s words, his heart somewhat feeling tenderness towards her.

As he returned the letters back to their original places, he thought, thankfully this person was Feng Ning, if it was someone else, in this sort of situation, he feared if it wasn’t weeping to death, she would have bothered the surrounding people to death. But Feng Ning, in his mind what he remembered the most was actually her arrogant, proud, and mischievous laughter.

Long San’s heart started to feel jittery, this woman wouldn’t really go one trip to the temple, and return as the previous her right? He unexpectedly didn’t want her to return to her old self.

Long San paced back and forth, no longer calm, one moment thinking, Yu Mama handles matters well, she wouldn’t let Feng Ning meet with any accidents, another moment thinking, it’s still not clear who the assassin is, could this trip have leaked some news and put her in danger? And another moment thinking, if Feng Ning really returns to her former self, how should he treat her? He even thought, maybe he should simply just go to the temple and accompany her?

In the end, he felt that Feng Ning was indeed an expert in blindly disturbing people, she’s not even here, but she can still make him extremely nervous. He still had a lot of important matters to attend to, he definitely couldn’t stay disorderly and with no propriety.

Ba Ai Mou Qin by Xin Xin Xiang Rong Chapter 13 Part 2

Ji Qing actually didn’t want to ignore those two people, but she had other concerns, her daughter, she bent down to look closer at her, she was sleeping, but her face showed that she had been crying and her face looked pained, she would cough a few times in her sleep. Ji Qing touched her daughter’s forehead, it was somewhat hot, but there were evident signs that she had gotten better, she gently stroke the little girl’s hair, then Zi Qin suddenly pulled her up and lead her out to the corridor.

At the corridor Zi Qin nervously said,” Ji Qing, you can get angry at me, it’s my fault, if I didn’t take Xue out to the amusement park….”

Ji Qing gently held her shoulder and shook her head, “Xue was born premature, her body is weak, besides the doctor also repeatedly said that going out will be good for her, and can increase her immune system, this seems to be the flu season, it’s difficult for adults to resist, let alone Xiao Xue.” (ES: As a mother of 2 premature born, I can’t agree that premature babies are weak, it all depends on the care the parents give. Sorry Ji Qing, I must look at you with judging eyes in this case)

The guilt on Zi Qing’s face slowly began to disappear, “The doctor said that at the best hospital, there are no beds available, and they can only let her stay in the emergency room. A friend of mine who works as a nurse there said that there is a patient that will be discharged tomorrow, so they can let Xue have that bed.”

Ji Qing nodded, “I think it’s better for you to go there, don’t wait till tomorrow, there will be a risk that someone will take that vacancy. please deal with this, so we will have a better chance at it.”

Hearing this Zi Qin nodded, she promised to call Ji Qing of any updates, then left. Ji Qing turned around and walked back to the infusion room in a daze.

Feng Jin Cheng sat on the small chair by the bed, his tall posture made him look kind of awkward, he sat with his slightly bent, his finger caressing Xiao Xue’s eyebrow slightly. His finger trembling as if fearing that he would use too much strength and cause harm to her. Seeing his shaking fingertips, Ji Qing’s heart inexplicably felt sour, maybe she had been too arbitrary to him, maybe this man didn’t hate kids after all. (ES: Double face palm)

Jin Cheng’s heart was shaken, in his 30 years of life, he never had any hands on experience with babies, yet here lying on this bed was a little girl that was his daughter. She looked so weak, her pale little hand tied to the line, with a needle buried in her thin blood vessel. He felt pained looking at her.

Jin Cheng moved his head closer to take a better look at her, those eyebrows, those eyes, they were an exact copy of his. The more he looked at her, the more beautiful she was to him. He unconsciously reached out and caressed her face.

Feeling a shadow in front of him, without taking his eyes away from her face, he asked shortly: "What? What did the doctor say? ”。

A reasonable question with no intention to provoke Ji Qing, she replied in a low voice, “The doctor said that in the best hospital, there are no more beds left. Zi Qin has a friend that will help to get an empty bed for tomorrow.”

Jin Cheng finally looked up at her and gently touched the child's forehead then stood up. Using his customary tone of command and said: "Stay  here, I need to go out for a while, I’ll be back ... ...".

Ji Qing looked on as his tall figure strode out of the infusion room until his shadow disappeared to the corner of the corridor, she suddenly felt overwhelmed, she secretly smiled wryly, she is such a weak and hopeless woman, just for a moment, she also wants to rely on the man ... ....

Ji Cheng came back followed by a kind and  mature female doctor in her forties who greeted Ji Qing with a smile, she walked over to talk the nurses as Jin Cheng gently picked up the child, then turned to Ji Qing and said,”Don’t just sit there, hurry up!” (ES: What a cold guy)

Ji Qing suddenly snapped out of her daze, she took the infusion bottle and held it up, she followed Jin Cheng at a steady pace, out of the infusion room and into the VIP ward, where Xiao Xue will have the best care from the doctors and the best medicines available to her. Suddenly it hit Ji QIng, maybe what Jin Cheng said was right, Xiao Xue will be better off living with him than with her mother, she can at least get the best medical care….(ES: oh-oh…..what is going through your mind now?)
